Privacy Policy

Effective October 10, 2026

UFO Spotter ("the app") is made by John Jerde. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes.

Sightings are public

Every sighting you post is public. There is no private option. A posted sighting includes the date and time, the location (latitude and longitude of the spot you chose, which may be your current location), an optional place name, shape, duration, your description, and an optional photo. Anyone using the app can see these details. Don't post information you don't want to be public, such as your home address or photos of people.

How sightings are stored

Sightings are stored in the app's public database in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit). Posting requires being signed in to iCloud. Each post is tied to an anonymous, app-specific iCloud user identifier generated by Apple. The app never sees or stores your name, email address, or Apple Account details, and that identifier isn't shown to other users. It's used only so you can delete your own posts and so other users can block an author. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

A copy of your own sightings, including the full-size photo, is also kept on your device for the My Sightings list. Photos uploaded publicly are resized and compressed.

Deleting your data

You can delete any of your sightings in the app (My Sightings, swipe to delete, or Delete on the sighting). This removes the public record from iCloud and the copy on your device. Deleting the app removes the on-device copies. To request deletion of anything else, contact us using the details below.

Reports and blocks

You can report a sighting. A report creates a record in the public database containing a reference to the sighting, the reason you chose, the time, and your anonymous iCloud user identifier. We use reports to review and remove objectionable content. Sightings with three or more reports are hidden automatically. If you block a user, the block list is stored only on your device.

Location, camera and photos

Location is used while the app is open to center the map, show nearby sightings, and place your sighting. Your location is only shared when you post a sighting at that spot. The camera and photo library are used only when you choose to attach a photo.

No tracking, ads or analytics

The app has no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and doesn't track you across apps or websites. We don't sell or share data with data brokers.

Purchases

UFO Spotter Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple. We never receive your payment details. The app only checks with Apple whether Pro has been purchased.

Children

The app isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
